George French Angas

Topographical views South Australia
George French Angas 1822-1886

Angas arrived in Australia (Adelaide) in 1844. He was essentially a naturalist who was also a talented artist. Many of his original watercolours are held in the collections of The National Library of Australia as well as a number of South Australian institutions. His impressions of the young South Australian colony, its landscapes, Aboriginal inhabitants and the flora and fauna are historically very significant. He was meticulous about his botanical, zoological and ethnographic details.
