Edward Lear, bird prints
Edward Lear 1812-1888

Best known today as the author of nonsense verse,
Lear is regarded as one of the finest of bird artists. An associate of John Gould, his instruction of Elizabeth Gould was instrumental in her development as an artist in her own right. Lear joined Gould as a pioneer in the use of the lithograph for bird illustration.
