William Elford Leach 1790-1836
Interested in zoology from an early age Leach, who qualified as a medical doctor, was employed as
assistant librarian in the Zoological Department of
the British Museum from 1813 to 1822. During that
time he published The Zoological Miscellany (1814-1817),
a continuation of The Naturalist's Miscellany by George Shaw (1751-1813), which was left incomplete
at the time of Shaw's death, in 1813.
