Marcus Bloch
Marcus Elieser Bloch 1723-1799
Bloch's Ichthyologie, Ou Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière, Des Poissons, is a seminal work on fish. Originally published in twelve volumes containing 432 hand-coloured plates, it remained a primary source for the following century. Finely detailed, each plate gives the name of the fish in Latin, German and French as well as, but not always, English.
